The Best Restaurant Websites in Washington, D.C.
August 18, 2022
D.C. restaurants are using BentoBox to grow their brands and increase their revenue. Here are some of our favorite examples.
Across the country, restaurant operators are preparing to face the "new normal" — and Washington, D.C., restaurants are no different.
To do this, many restaurants are creating best-in-class websites that meet the challenges — and seize the opportunities — of the current moment. They're investing in custom design to leave a strong, brand-first impression on future diners. They're setting up online commerce stores to diversify revenue and fight back against third-party commissions. And they're integrating websites with other technology to streamline workflows and operate with fewer, higher-paid staff members.
Want to see how that looks in action? We curated some of the best D.C. websites built on BentoBox, the premier online marketing and commerce platform for restaurants. Check them out below.
Bresca
Awarded one Michelin star in 2019, 2020 and 2021, Bresca delivers excellence both on-premises and on its website. The contemporary Parisian bistro showcases French techniques influenced by Mid-Atlantic ingredients in a casual yet refined environment. Its website replicates its rich interior design with gold accents and navy/royal blue tones. Visitors can easily navigate to menus, reservations, press clippings and job postings, while homepage pop-up alerts keep them informed about special announcements and events.
Federalist Pig
Known as one of Washington D.C.'s most famous barbecue joints, Federalist Pig celebrates American barbecue with a modern flare. Its website matches its iconic aesthetic with bold colors, minimalist line art and subtle animation. Bold call-to-action buttons help visitors find what they’re looking for, including helpful resources like its comprehensive reheating instructions for takeout. Banner alerts also show them up-to-date news, specials and promo codes.
Mercy Me
Located in the Yours Truly hotel in Dupont Circle, Mercy Me creates a casual but elevated culinary experience for any occasion. Self-coined as a "sorta South American hangout," the restaurant delivers a vibrant vibe on its website with bold blue, mint green and coral pink tones and high-resolution photography. Illustrations of South American wildlife soften its bold aesthetics, adding a playful touch, while an optimized direct online ordering platform delivers commission-free revenue.

Old Ebbitt Grill
Founded in 1856 and located steps from the White House, Old Ebbitt Grill is Washington D.C.'s oldest saloon. Its website replicates its old-world charm with antique-washed tones of brown, beige and brass, while past and present photographs honor its legacy. Beyond a restaurant and bar, Old Ebbitt Grill offers six private event options and wedding reception packages, which are all accessible on its website. More than a source of information, its website also generates revenue with its merchandise store and digital gift cards.
The Salt Line
The Salt Line brings classic New England dishes to the shores of the Potomac. With navy blue, seafoam green and salmon pink tones, along with nautical typography, its website replicates the coastal vibes of its interior. However, its website does more than set the tone for diners; it builds community between diners and partners with a dedicated page highlighting the restaurant's purveyors.
Timber Pizza Co.
Friends Andrew Dana and Chris Brady started Timber Pizza Co. in 2014, slinging pizzas from a '67 Chevy pickup truck on their off-hours. After chef Dani Moreira joined the team, the restaurant opened its first brick-and-mortar and hasn’t stopped since. Its website showcases its casual pizza vibes with high-resolution photography, illustrated backgrounds and fun but informative content. With multiple locations (and more coming soon), its easy-to-navigate website helps visitors find schedules and information about the nearest store, including its three mobile wood-fired pizza trucks.
Fred & Stilla
Inspired by the Swedish word for peace (fred) and a variation of the word style (stil becomes stilla), Fred & Stilla in Dupont Circle celebrates diplomacy with globally inspired comfort foods. Its website replicates its simple and modern interior with pastel and soft stone tones, concise content and cropped photography in a curvature design. It also evokes tranquility with negative space and minimalist features while capturing visitors' attention with a carousel of banner photos. In short, its website shows that clean and simple design can be just as robust and intriguing as bright and bold design.
Ethiopic
Ethiopic is an authentic Ethiopian restaurant that honors ancient Ethiopian Ge'ez language and culture in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Its website captures the essence of its interior with earth tones, Ge'ez script and vegetable illustrations. Its user-friendly navigation and simple, informative content make it easy for visitors to learn more about the restaurant’s menu and diner experience. Additionally, its website generates thousands of dollars per month with direct online ordering.
